BBC World News’ Bruno Sanogo spoke with Mandu dos Santos Pinto, project coordinator, about the project’s innovative, integrated approach to building resilience in flood-afflicted areas in urban Senegal. Since September 2009 heavy rains during the wet season have caused flooding also in urban Senegal, affecting hundreds of thousands of people. The project “Vivre avec l’eau” will combine infrastructure, policy and capacity-building interventions to sustainably address the problems caused by urban flooding and empower local communities in their fight against the floods.
