BBC World News’ Bruno Sanogo spoke with the project team and inhabitants of Bene Baraque about the project pilot: the drainage system, the urban greening fields and the different things that have been built from recycled material.
Following the Zero Waste action days, project partner Groupe Senghor selected two groups of 22 active young women from Bene Baraque to receive training in cleaning up public spaces and shoreline rehabilitation around the lake.
The project pilot’s first “Action Day: Zero Waste” brought together over 100 young people and around 70 children from Bene Baraque over the last weekend in June, 2014 to collect waste around two local lakes.
A CNN documentary depicts the work of project partner Groupe Senghor, a sustainable development company in the community Petit Mbao. His approach will form an integral part of the project's waste management component.
